April should be a busy month for tour groups in Nerja as Málaga port is expecting their busiest month so far this year. A total of 37 cruise ships are expected to dock in the port, bringing more than 60,000 passengers into the region, many of whom will go on organised day trips to destinations such as Nerja.
April, along with October and November, is the peak period for cruises here and the busiest day is forecast to be April the 20th, with five cruise ships expected, three of them being of the largest capacity, with a total of more than 6,000 passengers. The five ships are ‘Costa Neoromántica’, ‘Carnival Legend’, ‘Sea Cloud’, ‘Grand Mistral’ and ‘Corinthia’.
The ‘Sea Cloud’ is a spectacular cruise ship, and is calling in at Málaga as part of its cruise from Lisbon in Portugal, ending at Mallorca in the Balearic islands. The four masted ship was built in 1931 as a private yacht for a Wall Street stock broker, before being converted into a cruise ship back in 1978. The Sea Cloud is in port from 8.30am to 5.30pm on the 20th and it might be possible to catch sight of her distinctive lines as she passes Nerja later that evening.
Other busy days scheduled are today, the 1st of April, the 13th and the 16th, all with three cruise liners expected to dock, bringing thousands of visitors to the area.
