Nerja council have placed a statue of “Chanquete” overlooking Calahonda Beach, next to the Balcon de Europa Nerja. Chanquete was one of the most popular characters from the famous 1970 Spanish TV series Verano Azul.
A replica of Chanquete´s boat can also be seen over at Verano Azul park, near to the Supersol supermarket by the river.
The statue was created by sculptor Francisco Martín and is sure to be another popular attraction for Spanish visitors, who remember Verano Azul from their childhoods.
