Nerja’s mayor presided over the stone laying ceremony at the site of the new Burriana car park yesterday, where a capsule was buried containing currency, newspapers and copies of the documents relating to the works. The new car park should be ready for business within 12 months and will also incorporate a new tourist information office.
At the ceremony the mayor said that the €2.5 million development is “very important and very timely” and shows “a clear commitment to tourism”.
The site for the new car park is currently an empty parcel of land (top left of picture below), which is used for parking in the summer months, just off one of the access roads to Burriana and a few minutes walk to the beach. Parking in Burriana is very limited in the summer months, with more visitors than parking places and this new car park will be a very welcome addition to the area.
The new car park will be the fourth public car park to be built in Nerja, the others being the underground car parks at the Balcon de Europa, with 733 spaces, Verano Azul park with 273 spaces and the public pool car park, with 70 spaces. There is also the privately owned car park at Los Huertos.
