Nerja council have organised, in collaboration with the Civil Protection and the Environment and Cleaning departments, the Third Rio Chillar Clean-Up Day to be held on Sunday the 15th of September 2013. Last year’s event was postponed for a week due to heavy rain.
The participants will meet at 8.30am at the Tuesday/Sunday market site and can choose from two routes, with different levels of difficulty. Volunteers can register to take part in the clean up at the offices of the Consejo Municipal de Deportes, at the Protección Civil, at the Oficina Municipal de Atención al Ciudadano, the Centro de Información Juvenil and in the Nerja Cultural Centre.
For the more difficult route, the volunteers will be transferred to a starting point higher up the river by vehicle and they should be physically fit due to the distance and terrain to be covered.
The other route is considered to be of medium difficulty and those involved can turn around when they want and return to the starting point (the car park). Children can take part in this route.
The head of Civil Protection, Manuel Valderrama, has said that the participants should wear comfortable and durable shoes that can withstand getting wet, as the walk involves wading in the shallow river itself. Participants should also wear hats and bring water and some food.
