Work is under way at the temporary fire station site on the east side of Nerja, on the roundabout that goes down to Burriana beach. The €73,000 project will double the size of the fire station and also improve the station’s practice area.
During the improvement works the personnel will be based at a nearby sports centre, rather than move to the station at Velez-Malaga, so that they are on hand during the summer season, when the population of Nerja doubles.
A new Nerja fire station is planned to be built, but according to Abdeslam Lucena president of the Provincial Fire Consortium, the €5.8 million project is stalled due to lack of funds from the regional government of Andalucia.
