Work is underway on the hillside above Nerja’s Calahonda beach (behind Papagayo’s) installing new lighting.

The new lighting will use low energy LED and conventional bulbs and will be embedded in the ground, to illuminate the cliffside and the Balcon de Europa’s walls on both sides.

The total budget for the project is almost €90,000, which is being funded by the County Council. The work is planned to take three months.

Nerja’s mayor José Alberto Armijo welcomed the new project when it was announced earlier in the year, saying that the lighting will be a tourist attraction, improving the image of Nerja and the Balcon de Europa and its surroundings.
