Nerja council have organised a series of activities for local schoolchildren on World Environment Day which takes place this year on June the 5th.
Students will visit the Valsequillo recycling plant in Antequera, where a tree planting will take place. Other students will participate in various activities on the town’s beaches, including rubbish collection at Burriana and Torrecilla. The children will get t-shirts, gifts and prizes, including visits to the upper galleries of the Nerja Caves. A palm tree will also be planted.
Both the library and the toy library will have themes related to the environment, and the children who take part will receive a plant as a gift.
The Spanish consumers organisation FACUA have arranged a conference for students called “Water Consumption and Supply: an intelligent management of our resources.”
World Environment Day is organised by the UN and was first held in 1972. According to the UN it has grown to become the one of the main vehicles through which they stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment and encourages political attention and action.
