This year’s Resident’s Day in Nerja will take place in Plaza Cangrejos, at Torrecilla beach on Saturday the 9th of May 2015. The event has been moved from its usual location in Plaza de EspaƱa, to coincide with Europe Day and the inauguration of the Fuente de Europa fountain.

The events will start at midday with the Municipal Band accompanying the hoisting of the European Flag, which will be followed by a concert and other entertainment.

Fully 30% of the town’s population are foreigners and Resident’s Day is organised by the council in recognition of that fact.

The Fuente de Europa fountain was originally located in Parque Verano Azul by the river and was opened in 2002 as a symbol of Spain’s membership of the EU. The fountain is built from 16 separate stones, 15 from other EU countries, donated specifically for this purpose, and the last one from Nerja itself. The fountain has been moved to its new much more visible location, just below Bamboo restaurant.
