A 62 year old man was badly injured on Friday, when his home made plane crashed just after take-off at the Aerodrome Leoni Benabú (near to Trapiche).

The fire brigade rescued the man from the wreckage and he was taken to the Carlos Haya hospital in Malaga by helicopter. The cause of the accident is unknown, but the weather conditions were described as being “perfect for flying” at the time. The pilot was the only occupant of the aircraft.

This crash is the latest in a series of accidents at the airfield, the last being in April with two fatalities. A spokesman for the airfield has defended their safety record saying that they strictly follow all the regulations.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
