Mary-Anne Goosens
Over the weekend rumours were spreading around Nerja that the missing Dutch woman Mary-Anne Goossens had been found in Frigiliana, a village close to Nerja.  It is not known who started the rumours but they are untrue.

The family have issued a new press release (below) in an attempt to stop these rumours and to keep the search for Mary-Anne Goossens in people’s minds.  The missing woman’s son Fritz Korten explained the family’s distress at the gossip circulating: “We are shocked by these rumors, especially because this leads to confusion and a weakened attention for this missing person case. This severely complicates the search for my mother.”

PRESS RELEASE IN FULL

3rd July 2011

Son and daughter of the missing Mary-Anne Goossens, Fritz and Jantje Korten, arrived in Nerja once again. Upon their arrival they found that incorrect information was circulating the town of Nerja, the rumor started that their mother already had been found. Such was the topic in several bars, posters have also been encountered where the message was written on that Mary-Anne would have been found. These rumors are definitely not based on the truth, while there is still no sign of Mary-Anne. Fritz Korten: “We are shocked by these rumors, especially because this leads to confusion and a weakened attention for this missing person case. This severely complicates the search for my mother.”

“We are afraid that the increasing tourism in these summer months play a role”, says a close friend to the family. “Holidaymakers usually do not like to be confronted with a missing person case while on holiday. But Mary-Anne is missing and we want to find her. So we keep on going until we succeed. That is why we are positing new bill’s and talk to the locals. Fortunately we are being supported by a large number of people in Nerja.”

Poster distribution
Fritz and Jantje Korten left for Nerja again yesterday afternoon with a number of friends to continue the search in Nerja. Their goal is to distribute new missing posters with the new telephone number of the recently established anonymous tip-off and information line. 16 teams consisting of 2 or more people will post the new bills today in a wide area surrounding Nerja. The teams are made out of family members, friends, inhabitants of Nerja and tourists who volunteered spontaneously.

This morning at 9.30 the teams left with 2000 posters, with the intention to distribute them in the vast area between Vélez-Málaga, Alhama de Granada and Almuñecar. The teams travel in Andalusië by scooter and car.
