A new book about the history of Nerja was launched on Saturday at an event held in the Nerja Museum. Entitled “Nerja, recuerdos de papel” (paper memories) the book is written by local man José Miguel García.

The book, which is 125 pages long, is filled with clippings of the everyday history of Nerja, from 1889 to present.

The book includes old feria programs, brochures of local establishments and leaflets for political parties at the beginning of Spanish democracy, plus flyers for the boxing matches that were made famous in the sixties and the news of the discovery of the Caves.

The foreword of the book is by the local writer Plácido Iranzo, who noted that the book contains “memories of our history that should not be forgotten”.

The book (in Spanish) is available to buy in local bookshops for €13 and will be of interest to anyone who would like to learn more about the town’s history.
