There was drama on the Balcon de Europa this afternoon, when police evacuated the area after a suspicious object was discovered. The suspect device, a rucksack, was found at 3pm, chained to one of the benches on the Balcon, causing police to cordon off the area, evacuating all the nearby restaurants as a precaution.
While waiting for the bomb disposal unit to arrive from Malaga city, the owner of the rucksack was identified – a South Korean holidaymaker who had left his bag padlocked to the bench while he went for lunch.
The tourist ended the security scare by unlocking the padlock and proving the harmless bag was his.
People at the scene, praised the police for their fast response, but many were angry with the hapless tourist for having thoughtlessly caused the bomb scare.
