The very popular Coastline FM English language radio station has had to cease broadcasting on FM today after being told to stop by the regional government, the Junta de Andalucia. Coastline has been broadcasting since 1989 and this news has come as a shock to the radio station and its large band of loyal listeners.
Coastline FM was the first English language radio station to operate on the Coast when it started 24 years ago and the company says that they are working with the Junta de Andalucia to resolve this licensing issue. In theory over 100 other broadcasters are also affected, although many are continuing to operate. In a statement Coastline FM said that they hope the shutdown is only temporary and that “it is a technicality/paperwork issue – but we want to work with the Junta rather than proceed and risk large fines.”
Listeners can still get the station online, but for now the FM radio broadcasts have stopped from 6pm today.
