A jewellery shop in Torrox-Costa was the scene of a robbery on Wednesday evening, when four masked men burst in and grabbed the contents of the display cabinet and safe, escaping with €130,000 of jewellery in a stolen car, which was later found abandoned nearby.
The raid took place just before 6pm at the Euromar jewellers on avenida de Las Palmeras in the seaside resort of Torrox-Costa to the west of Nerja. At the time of the robbery, the only person on the premises was the 78 year old mother of the shop’s owner, who was looking after the shop while her daughter took her grandson to the doctors. A member of the public had just left after purchasing a bracelet and by chance the safe was still open when the gang entered the shop.
One of the robbers restrained the woman by the shoulders, whilst the other three cleared the shop of its stock in a matter of minutes. The getaway car, a black Seat Leon, was found shortly afterwards nearby in Avenida del Faro, where it is believed the gang switched to another vehicle. The Guardia Civil have launched an investigation into the crime.
