The El Torcal natural park (just north of Malaga) is in the running to be voted the Best Corner Of Spain 2013 in a competition being organised by the Repsol Guide. The park is in second place with 62,000 votes, behind the Pozalagua Caves with 75,000 votes.
This is the second year that the Repsol Guide has run this competition, to find and promote little known corners of Spain, away from the traditional tourist destinations.
El Torcal de Antequera is in the Sierra del Torcal mountain range and is one of the most impressive limestone landscapes in Europe. The area was designated a Natural Site of National Interest in July 1929, and a Natural Park Reserve in October 1978. El Torcal is around 1.5 hours from Nerja by car (see map below)
You can see all the entrants in the Repsol competition and vote for your favourite on the Repsol website until the 13th of September.
