Now that the Los Huertos/Carabeo car park in the centre of Nerja has started charging, the hunt is on to find somewhere to park for free. You can park for free in the surrounding streets if you can find a space. Be aware that the first left just before the car park entrance is actually no entry, and even though there are often spaces on this street or round the corner on Carabeo itself, cars do get towed away here, or blocked in by delivery vans.
For parking near to Burriana beach there are often spaces at the bottom of Calle de Andalucia (Hotel Villa Flamenca is on this street), even when everywhere else is full.
There are two large free car parks on Playazo Beach, convenient for the beach and the restaurants, but these are too far from the town centre to be of much use in the summer.
In the Torrecilla area there are often on-street spaces to be found in the many back streets. There are no parking meters in Nerja.
If you do find a space to park on the street, make sure you follow any parking restrictions. Note that some streets in the town centre change which side you can park on from month to month, and everyone has to swap sides on the 1st of the month – look at the street signs for more information.
If you see a space with a red triangular sticker (saying “Grua”) stuck to the kerb next to it – it means the last person who parked there got towed away. Also don’t block entrances or park on the pavement, roundabouts or pedestrian crossings as you may well get towed away.
The biggest free car park in Nerja itself, is located behind the Mercadona supermarket on the way in to Nerja from the west. The easiest way to find it is to come in to Nerja over the old bridge (next to the Supersol) and turn left at the roundabout. The car park is at the end of the road. You can also park by the river. From here, the town centre is only a few minutes walk away.
