The summer heatwave that has hit Spain and the Canaries will continue until Friday the 29th, according to an alert issued by AEMET, the Spanish Met Office.

The heatwave has been caused by a stable area of high pressure over the country, plus a warm African wind. In Seville, thermometers have reached the mid 40ºC. In Nerja, the temperature reached a high of 28ºC on Monday afternoon, with humidity reaching 80%, feeling hot and muggy.

A spokesman for AEMET has said that the heat wave is within normal values in these latitudes, but coming in the last week of June will mean that this month will be “warmer than normal, for sure.”
