Nerja AyuntamientoNerja Council have announced that nearly 14,000 homes in Nerja will see their council tax (IBI) reduced in 2014 due to a subsidy being provided by the county council.

The reduction will apply to properties with a rateable value (catastral) less than €100,000, which, according to the council, accounts for some 87% of the homes in the town. The reduction will only apply to people who are domiciled here, on the electoral roll (empadron) in that house and be up to date with their taxes. The reductions, if applicable, will be applied automatically when the bills are being calculated.

The council have already announced that council tax for the coming year will be frozen, and this subsidy will reduce bills by between 10% and 50% according to the value of the property. According to the Mayor, José Alberto Armijo, these reductions mean that a qualifying property in calle Antonio Millón will see a reduction from €85 to €55 next year and one in calle Cristo, will pay €418 instead of €465, calling the reductions “a godsend at a difficult time, economically”.

The county council have budgeted €5 million to cover the whole of the province of Malaga for these subsidies. More information is available from the council or the provincial tax office (Oficina del Patronato Provincial de Recaudación).
