Nerja council are planning to ask the Coasts Department to finance the next phase of the new railings for Torrecilla beach. The first section was completed in the spring, at a cost of €50,000 funded by Nerja Council.
The council claim that as it was the Coasts Department that specified and fitted the original railings, which have deteriorated badly in the harsh sea air environment on the promenade, then it should be the Coasts Department that funds their replacement.
The new railings are of polished tubular stainless steel, designed to withstand the conditions better than the original painted steel railings.
The old railings were installed in 2000 and required annual maintenance to protect the metal from the damp air. The budget for the next phase is around €70,000.
