The Nerja Town Hall is not known for its support of local rock musicians and bands. Last summer the Ayuntamiento organised and then cancelled at the last moment the Burriana Beach Rock Festival. Rock and pop music fans in Nerja had more or less given up hope of any encouragement from the council.
However this week the council announced the creation of a new association, ‘Nerja en Directo’, with the stated aim of promoting and supporting local groups from in and around Nerja. As well as arranging concerts the association is hoping to help young bands with finding rehearsal space, recording tracks and getting the bands exposure outside of Nerja. The first aim will be the organisation of this year’s Fifth Fabrica Rock Festival which has been pencilled in for May 20th.
It would be great if this association really does give the many talented bands around the opportunities they deserve.
