The VIII Gala del Deporte Local (Local Sports Gala) was held in the Cultural Centre with awards handed out to the best athletes and sportsmen and women from Nerja over the past two years.
The first award handed out was to the Most Promising Sportswoman, which went to the swimmer Lourdes María Herrero Centurión. The Most Promising Sportsman went to the gymnast Álvaro Bacas Fernández.
The award for Outstanding Local Sports Person or Entity went to Cristian Gustavo Herrero Rodríguez from the Nerja Skating Club.
The prize for Best Club or Team went to the female 4×100 team at the Nerja Athletics Club.
The prize for Best Foreign Player in a local team went to Javier Merás Ramírez, of the Nerja Basketball Club.
For the Health Sports Award the prize went to Buceo Costa Nerja.
Best Sportsman went to Ismael Rojas García from the Club Motonáutica Nerja.
Best Sportswoman went to Alba Armijo Jiménez, from the Municipal Volleyball School.
During the evening various other awards were given out including Local Sports Legend which went to José Luis Bobadilla Bueno, for a life dedicated to sport. The mayor also announced that he will propose that the football stadium be named after José Luis Bobadilla Bueno.
