The Spanish Minister of Industry, Energy and Tourism, José Manuel Soria, yesterday presided over the annual “Q” Flag ceremony, where the Quality Tourism flags were officially given to 174 Spanish beaches, including Burriana and Torrecilla in Nerja.
During the ceremony, Minister Soria gave a total of 82 municipalities from 9 different Spanish regions the badge for the quality of their beaches and water sport facilities.
Spanish TV station Antena 3 broadcast live from Burriana beach reporting that the beach was one of the top five in Spain having achieved this distinction for 8 years.
Andalucia stands out with a total of 58 beaches certified, followed by Valencia with 46, Murcia and Catalonia with 25 and 20. They are followed by Galicia, with 9 certified beaches, Asturias, with 7; Cantabria, 4, Baleares, 3, and Ceuta, 2.
