spain general strikeThere will be a General Strike in Spain and other European countries on Wednesday November the 14th 2012.

The unions have agreed certain minimum service levels for public transport, airlines, communications, healthcare and the emergency services and it is likely the services will all be operating as if it were a national holiday.

The airports will be open, but flights will be restricted to minimum levels (more details below). Trains will be operating minimum services, with 31 high speed AVE train services operating, and 30% of local train services operating. Buses will have a skeleton service.

The high speed AVE trains in operation will be on the lines between Madrid and Barcelona, Málaga, Sevilla and Valencia plus the direct trains between Barcelona and Sevilla and Málaga. More information on the RENFE website here.

During the last general strike in March private businesses were open pretty much as usual in Nerja, with many shops, bars and restaurants open for business. Bus services to Málaga and the airport were affected and it is likely that there will only be a skeleton bus service during the strike on Wednesday.

Its not clear at present what flights might be affected from Málaga Airport. If you have booked to fly on that day it is worth checking with your airline or holiday company before you travel, likewise if you have booked a taxi.
