The three kings arrived in Nerja this evening and mounted a colourful parade from ‘parque de Verano Azul’, along Diputacion and Granada before following Calle Pintada to the Balcon de Europa.
The parade was led by stilt walkers and children in brilliant costumes followed by brightly decorated floats with lucky children throwing handfuls of sweets to the excited onlookers whilst helping themselves every now and then. The scrambling masses of children and occasional adults filled bags and pockets with the offerings.
The municipal band was on hand to provide rousing music until the appearance of the three kings, sitting magisterially at the top of their wagons.
The parade reached its destination on the Balcon de Europa where the kings completed the nativity story by presenting gifts at the ‘belen’.
For many children in Nerja the ‘cabalgata de los tres reyes magos’ is the beginning of their most exciting evening of the year. After seeing the three kings arrive they know that in the morning they will wake up to find lots of gifts waiting for them, brought by ‘los reyes magos’ during their visit to Nerja.
