Agents from Spanish Customs intercepted a boat attempting to smuggle two tons of cannabis into Spain yesterday morning, at Calaceite beach, between Nerja and Torrox.
The agents were on a routine patrol in the early hours of the morning, when they heard the sound of a boat’s engines. Realising they were about to be stopped, the crew on the suspect boat ran it aground at Calaceite and made their escape.
The customs agents found two tons of cannabis in sixty two bales on the abandoned vessel. The 7.5m twin engined boat was also seized in the operation.
