The Red Lion
Some good news: There is a new LICENSED!!! Venue open in Torrox Costa! It is the Red Lion, on avenida el Faro, block 75. I spoke to the owner, Jonny Q, before the opening night on Good Friday & he was outfitting the place with a 1.5kw sound system, with D.I. (no tangled wires everywhere). After the sad loss of Sand’s & C, he will be picking up the reigns for the Tuesday jam session. Doors open 4pm till late’o clock & they will be closed Sundays. He also says bands are welcome to use the space for rehearsing too, so go & have a chat with him if you need the space!
The Dubliner
The Dubliner in Nerja’s Tutti-Frutti square, as well as showing all the sports, are now becoming more known as a music venue. It’s an awkward room to work, but we always have a laugh. Lee Townsend is going down a storm there on Thursday evenings & Jason Kearney has been moved from Tuesdays to Fridays. I am still hanging in there on Saturday nights.
Jason Kearney – Biography
Jason Kearney started gigging and recording in 1990 and has produced 5 albums and 3 EPs to date.
Along the way, he has gigged in New York, Germany, Spain and his home country, Ireland, playing in various bands and solo.
He has supported the likes of Lloyd Cole, John Martyn, John Renbourne (Pentangle) and Damien Rice.
His music could be described as indie/folk with hints of country and blues. He is currently recording a new album under the name Rubiotunes in Frigiliana and, is putting up a new tune on Soundcloud every month.
You can also catch him at the Balcon de Frigiliana on Sundays, April 7th & 14th from 2pm.
Tropicana Punta Lara
On the 4th I will be performing at Tropicana Bar & Restaurant on Punta Lara, opposite the Hotel Marinas de Nerja, with the lovely Miss Saskia Lockey, daughter of Paul Lockey (host of the Boatyard Jam). Their French chef will be offering a set menu 2 courses for €9.95 or €11.95 for 3 courses! Booking on 952523185
Saskia is a fantastic & talented performer, classically trained, ballet dancer/choreographer, has performed in numerous productions in London’s West End & more recently has had a single in the top 40. She balances her music career with that of a fashion designer too, being a partner & founder of the ever more successful CUSHH clothing group! We will be performing from 9 o’clock & I shall be there every week thereafter. I am hoping to bring in a different artist every week! Food is not obligatory, so you can come & just have a drink & enjoy the show if you like!
