The four day long Nerja Carnival 2013 gets underway in less than a months time, on February the 7th and Nerja Council have unveiled the official poster for the event. This year’s poster has been created by Fotos Guerrero and shows a carnival mask on a background of the Balcon de Europa. The image has been made up using a mosaic of photos from last year’s carnivals.
Sandra Jimena (pictured) councillor for popular traditions, has also announced that there will be an exhibition about the Nerja Carnival in the Sala Mercado (near to the Mercadona supermarket) running from the 17th of January until 14th of February. The exhibition will feature costumes and other props from past carnivals and will stay open for a week after the end of the carnival to show the winning costumes from this year’s event.
Nerja Carnival itself is one of the most entertaining festivals of the year, with four days of partying and extravagance, in preparation for the self-denial of the Lent period, with street parades, fancy dress competitions and finally the Entierro Del Bogueron where a giant sardine is taken out to sea and blown up at Calahonda Beach in Nerja.
