Nerja Feria 2012 was officially opened yesterday by Antonio Cortés, in front of a crowd of several hundred people, by the church on the Balcon de Europa. He finished his act with a performance of a new song dedicated to Nerja, written by Vanesa Martín.
The children’s Feria King and Queen were elected in the official Caseta in the fairground and are Elizabeth Muñoz and Iker López, with entertainment afterwards provided by La Carpa. The King and Queen are chosen by random ballot, with the names drawn from an urn on stage. When the name of the first winner was announced, the lucky boy ran around the caseta too embarrassed to go on stage and another child was chosen instead.
In the evening the patron saint of Nerja the Señora de las Angustias (pictured above) was returned to the Ermita in a candle lit procession around the streets of Nerja.
