Four of Nerja’s beaches have received the prestigious blue flag award this year. For the second year running El Playazo, Torrecilla, Burriana and the beach at Maro have been recognised as fulfilling the criteria needed to gain this distinguished award.
The Blue Flag works towards sustainable development at beaches/marinas through strict criteria dealing with water quality, environmental education and information, environmental management, and safety and other services.
Only two towns in Andalucia have more blue flag beaches, and the town council have stressed their commitment to improving all the beaches in Nerja and to strive to gain the blue flag award for Calahonda, El Salon and El Chucho beaches.
