Tucked away on a small square midway between Torrecilla beach and the Balcon de Europa, La Tahona Holandesa is a cosy little restaurant run by Dirk and Margareth, where you can go for a drink and a tapas or a full meal.

Inside, La Tahona feels like a Spanish patio garden, with tables for 20 guests and more room at the bar for drinks and tapas. Outside, on the little known Plaza Garcia Caparros, there are tables and chairs for al fresco dining.

The food on offer at La Tahona is all freshly cooked from local seasonal products, with an international menu of fish, meat and vegetarian dishes. Starters are from €3.50, main courses start at €10.50, and you can also try their special starter taster platter with a selection of dishes for €9.50 a head (minimum of two people). On Saturdays from 7.30pm there is an eat all you want Indonesian buffet at just €15.00 per person and on Sundays there is a carvery/buffet with 3 courses for €13.50. Booking is essential for both.

For tapas aficionados, La Tahona is a nice find in this part of town, with a caña (small beer) for €2.00 or wine for €2.50, all served with a tapas of your choice. Tapas is available at the bar inside or outside on the terrace on the plaza.

La Tahona Holandesa is on the small square just down from Calle Antonio Millón (the pedestrianised street below Plaza Tutti Frutti) and is well worth taking the trouble to find, away from the tourist traps in the busier parts of town.
