Ayo’s beach restaurant at the end of Burriana, is famous for being featured in the Spanish TV series “Verano Azul” which was flimed in Nerja and still gets visits from fans of the TV series, despite having been broadcast over 30 years ago.

The reasonably priced menu has a range of meat and fish dishes, or you can just choose the paella which is cooked at the side of the restaurant in large pans on a bonfire made from chopped up wooden cargo pallets. You can also go back for seconds (or thirds) if your appetite is big enough. Afterwards you can sleep off your excesses on the beach, although swimming is not recommended after three helpings of paella, unless you want to sink like a stone.

Ayo’s was established in 1969 by Francisco Ortega – ‘Ayo’ is the nickname he gave himself for his habit of finishing everything he said with that word.
