The short street that runs from the church on the Balcon de Europa (Calle Carmen) past the tourist information office up to Plaza de España is about to undergo a refurbishment. The €60,000 project is due to take 45 days to complete and, according to Nerja’s councillor for infrastructure Antonio García, the object of the exercise is to improve the entranceway to one of the most emblematic parts of Nerja; the Balcon de Europa.
The street links the underground car park beneath Plaza de España, as well as the Nerja Caves Museum , to the Balcon and is used by many visitors to the town. There are open air cafes on both sides of the street, which passes underneath the town hall (ayuntamiento).
The tender for the work was won by a local company and will include new paving and replacement of the underground water and sewage pipes.
