Every Sunday in the Almijara area of Nerja there is a large car boot sale. The flea market is organised by the Nerja Lions who raise money for their charities from the fees paid by the stallholders.
The market gets underway at around 8am and finishes by 2pm. This is a huge event, and there really is almost everything you can think of for sale. From clothes, books and CDs to pots and pans, furniture, and oil paintings. There are specialist collectors of coins and stamps, antique stalls and drum kits!
Local charities also use the car boot for fundraising so look out for their stalls when you visit.
To get to the market location (see map below) is about a 20 minute walk from the town centre, the last part uphill. If you are driving follow the signs to the ‘Rastrillo’ along the N340, taking a left (if heading out of town) at the Burriana roundabout.
The cooler months are usually the busiest and it is difficult to get a pitch if you are looking to sell. A certain number of regular sellers have permanent pitches, but the rest have to turn up on the morning of the car boot sale and hope that they are in time to secure a spot. Obviously the earlier you get there the more chance you have! In the summer, when it gets really hot, it is easier to get a space on the market but remember to take lots of methods of protecting yourself from the sun.
